urn:lj:livejournal.com:atom1:melodie_bolt melodie_bolt melodie_bolt 2008-01-01T19:33:12Z urn:lj:livejournal.com:atom1:melodie_bolt:679 2008-01-01T19:33:12Z 2008-01-01T19:33:12Z I just got an email from Rebecca, the poetry editor at TOTU (Tales of the Unanticipated) saying she wants a poem of mine entitled "Sleeping Beauty in Red Stilettos."&nbsp; I wrote this about seven years ago and have been tweaking it since then.&nbsp;&nbsp;I am really&nbsp;glad to have found a&nbsp;home for this piece.&nbsp;&nbsp;Not only is it one of my favorites, but it&nbsp;has been challenging finding the right place for a poem that blends fairy tales and strip clubs.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<br /><br />I wrote the poem&nbsp;after watching one of Cinemax'&nbsp;episodes of "Real Sex" which&nbsp;interviewed several professional dancers who tour throughout the&nbsp;U.S.&nbsp; What struck me while watching the show was that all of the&nbsp;women seemed very lonely.&nbsp; Because of their constant travel and occupation, most were unable to maintain long-term relationships.&nbsp;&nbsp;<br /><br />I am&nbsp;both fascinated and repulsed&nbsp;by the objectification of people.&nbsp; As a theme, it is&nbsp;one that I frequently revisit in my writing.&nbsp; If you have never heard of TOTU, definitely check it out.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<br /><br />&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
